The 2025 Ram 1500 is officially saying goodbye to the legendary 5.7L Hemi V8, replacing it with twin-turbo 3.0L I-6 “SST” engines.

The standard-output SST makes 420 hp & 469 lb-ft, while the high-output version cranks out 540 hp & 521 lb-ft, blowing the old Hemi’s 395 hp & 410 lb-ft out of the water.
Ram promises smooth power delivery, near-zero turbo lag, and an ultra-quiet cabin, but will it have the same character as the Hemi?
For those still wanting familiarity, the 3.6L Pentastar V6 remains the base engine on Tradesman and Big Horn trims.

Ram says we won’t miss the Hemi, but will these new engines truly deliver the same thrill? Are you excited about the switch, or will you miss the V8 rumble?

On paper, the new Hurricane I-6 absolutely destroys the Hemi in power and torque, but numbers don’t tell the whole story. The Hemi had a proven track record, a distinct exhaust note, and a simplicity that made it reliable long-term. Twin turbos bring more moving parts and potential maintenance headaches. I’ll wait to see real-world durability before deciding if this is a worthy replacement.
