One of the big selling points on trucks is their towing, so producing an EV that competes with standard trucks is quite the feat in my eyes. I expect there will be issues, but I’m kind of wondering if the EVs will be used in place of trucks, or bought by people who maybe don't need to tow all that much.

What are you towing? I routinely pull a small travel trailer.

Heavy-duty EVs are still under development... there are quite a few though, but I don't think it's a great replacement for diesel-powered trucks... Also, the range of EVs is not that solid compared to diesel-powered trucks. However, if they figure out how to make it more efficient without any drawbacks that's when I'll consider buying an EV truck.

I’ve been towing a small boat with my Ram 1500 EV, and so far it’s been smooth sailing. The torque from the electric motor actually makes towing feel pretty effortless, even on inclines. I wouldn’t try hauling anything too heavy, though, still have to be realistic about range and battery drain when you’re pulling a load. But for smaller trailers and boats? No problem at all! I kinda wanna try pulling something heavier or larger. But my work doesn't have stuff like that. 🤷‍♂️

I think EV trucks like the Ram 1500 are going to change the game for people who don’t necessarily need to tow massive loads. I pull a lightweight camper, and this truck’s range and torque have been impressive. With a bit of planning for charging stops, I think EV trucks are going to start replacing a lot of gas trucks, especially for people who mostly do light or medium towing. I hope charging stations become common, to a point that I don't need to plan awkward charging stops. 🤷‍♂️

I haven’t towed anything yet with my 1500 EV, but I’m considering using it for a small utility trailer or a few dirt bikes. I was also curious about how towing would affect the range, especially on longer trips. For pulling smaller trailers, how much does towing drop your battery range? I'm planning a quick trip with family and we'd probably bring a bunch of stuff for the trip.

I pull a travel trailer too, but I’m still getting used to the range impact when towing. The electric power is great in terms of torque, but the more I haul, the more range anxiety creeps in. I think for short trips or medium-weight trailers, it’s perfect, but I wouldn’t try any heavy-duty hauling without planning out charging stops carefully. I usually try to estimate waaay less, than the dash shows. I do hope there's more chargers in more places soon.
