Anyone else out there driving a 2021 RAM 1500 (Etorque, 5.7L Hemi) experiencing a whining noise between 500-700 RPM? It's there since I bought it new. Dealership says it's normal - something about the generator charging the battery - but after listening to another Etorque, I'm not convinced. This whine is kind of annoying, especially for a truck with this price tag! More importantly, though, I'm worried it might be a sign of something more serious down the road. Anyone else have this experience?

The whine you’re hearing is actually a known trait with the Etorque system, especially around 500-700 RPM. Some people are sensitive to it, some aren't. It’s related to the motor-generator unit charging the battery, which creates that high-pitched noise. The dealership is right—it’s a normal part of the system’s operation. You’re not alone in finding it annoying, but mechanically, it shouldn’t cause any long-term issues. If it starts getting louder or more frequent, it might be worth a deeper look, though. 👍

exact same experience with my 2021 Etorque! That whining noise bugged me for a while, but after doing some digging and listening to other trucks, I found it’s just part of the system. That said, you might want to try adding soundproofing in the cabin, it won’t get rid of the noise, but it’ll make it a lot less noticeable when you’re driving. I've heard of a few folks doing this with some success. Or probably just putting on your usual music every time you drive. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, that whine is super common with the Etorque system, it’s just the generator doing its thing to keep the battery charged. 😓 My dealership gave me the same explanation, and while it’s not the worst sound ever, you’d think a truck in this price range would be a bit quieter. I’ve gotten used to it, but it still catches me off guard when I’m not paying attention. If it’s driving you crazy, maybe try getting a second opinion, but from what I’ve seen, it’s just ‘normal.

That noise is something a lot of us with the Etorque system have. It’s most prominent when the system is generating power to charge the battery, particularly at lower RPMs. Your dealership is correct—it’s a normal part of how the mild hybrid system works. It’s not likely to cause any issues down the road. If it’s really bothering you, maybe explore sound-dampening solutions or even get a second opinion just to put your mind at ease. Or there might be a fix through the dealer. 😖

I am having the same type of problem with the noise in my 2021 Ram 1500 eTorque, BUT what is concerning me is that I have been watching my main battery volts on my dash and when I first start my truck with that crazy sounding noise my volts are at 14.5 as I am driving the volts start dropping. My home is about 35 miles from my work and by the time I get home my volts are around 14.0. I have had my main battery checked, and it shows that it is good. This eTorque thing is making me crazy….🤪
