Electric trucks are all the rage, but can they really hang with the gas-guzzlers off-road? Stellantis seems to think so with their new patent for a 2-speed gearbox! This thing would ditch the typical single gear setup for an EV and swap it for a low-speed crawl mode for rocky terrain and a high-speed gear for cruising. Basically, an electric transfer case! The benefits sound tempting - better off-roading without sacrificing everyday efficiency, plus Stellantis even says it allows for super tight turns. But is this 2-speed gearbox a gimmick or a game changer for electric trucks? Stellantis says they might use it in the Recon, Ram EVs, and even an electric Durango. What do you think? Is this the future of electric off-roading or just over-engineering?

hmmm, i wouldn't exactly say that its a gimmick or over-engineering, but it can be a pedestal in order for the future of off-road EVs will flourish. as long as it adds more value to the car, I'd gladly take it. the rise of EVs and the extended scope that they can cover, from off-road, sporty, sedan, SUVs. it just shows how they try to innovate and its working just right
